Sven B. Schreiber (sbs) The "North Sea Radio Orchestra" is another highly creative branch of the "Cardiacs" tree. At the core, it's the "Shrubbies" masterminds Craig and Sharron Fortnam, joined by James and Richard Larcombe ("Stars In Battledress") and several other great musicians. The likewise fantastic William D. Drake contributed two tracks, as well as backing vocals. The genre is... well, what is it in the first place? Some kind of chamber music... but an odd one. Favorite track: Chimes.

Bill's March 00:49

about

First released in 2006 this is the debut NSRO studio album and features the band as it was in its first phase. These songs and instrumentals were initially rehearsed and performed in City Of London churches. Craig composed all the material over a period of three to four years as the band developed its sound and repertoire. This record captures the early 'churchy sound' of those days, when NSRO and attendant singers, the North Sea Chorus, were fundamentally a purely acoustic outfit (apart from the odd chamber organ plugged into an amp).
Nearly all the words are by long-dead poets (Tennyson, Longfellow, Hardy, Yeats etc) as Craig hadn't yet summoned-up the nerve to write his own.

about

North Sea Radio Orchestra Salisbury, UK

NSRO was formed in 2002 by Craig and Sharron Fortnam. They began rehearsing and performing in old churches, secreted away in the heart of the City Of London. At first their audience had to explore the lost alleys and lanes of the City to hear their sounds. They then moved out into the world at large; so far releasing five albums. ... more
